About the Artist

My name is Carole Sussex and my obsession with miniatures began about ten years ago. Once my first dollhouse was built and finished, I was hooked on the hobby. Since I had several ideas for individual rooms, the decision was made to build room boxes. In the beginning, the room boxes were designed on paper and taken to a friend to build. Since I always enjoyed working with wood, I quickly made the decision to build the boxes myself. This also gave me more flexibility to make design changes, if necessary, and more quality control. After creating several for myself, friends saw some of my completed designs and started to ask if I could build a room box for them. Thus was the beginning of the concept for Creative Room Boxes. My grandaughter encouraged me to develop a website, so here I am.
Design has always been part of my life. I was an interior designer for over thirty years and also designed and built several homes with my son. Much thought and planning goes into the making of each box, and no two boxes are alike. Each designed box has its own story and how it came to be a finished room. It is fun to see many of my ideas and designs come to life in miniature. One of the nicest compliments anyone can pay me is, "I can see myself living in that room!".
After "retiring", I went to work part time at Miniature Makers Workshop in Royal oak, Michigan. I have taught several room box classes there and a number of my boxes are on display.
I hope you enjoyed viewing some of my work. Happy Miniaturing!!!
